Is Borax safe to use in homemade face creams? If not what is the alternate?

Well it's found in ant killer so you'd think not, though it is used widely as an emulsifier in 'natural' cosmetics.

There is a concentration percentage that borax shouldn't exceed, usually about 5% by volume.

If you read this page, you'll see that totally natural emulsifiers are hard to come by.
